A massive crowd took over The Nest for our first friendly game of the season to see The Ravens take on the phenomenon that is AFC Wimbledon.
Bromley, starting the game with their strongest eleven, looked fit and up for the game from the kick off and had a number of good attacks early on, but lacked the killer touch in front of goal. As the first half went on AFCW came back into things and threatened from set pieces. Bromley finally took the lead on 32 mins when Luckett converted a penalty following a foul on the impressive Akuamoah. The former Kingstonian Striker linked up well with Bartley and Kirk Watts also looked as tricky as ever on the left. Hollidge too had a good half, but the Beckham hair cut has to go!
Bromley made numerous changes at half time with Richard Thompson and Dean Thomas playing up front. Two minutes into the second half history was made, when Glen Mulhearn crashed in an awesome effort from outside the box into the roof of the net to score AFCW’s first ever goal. The Dons looked the stronger team for the next period of play, but they too were wayward in front of goal. On 64 mins Thompson put Bromley back in front with an overhead kick that was fumbled into the net by the Dons keeper. Sadly just after the goal John Wilfort went down with a serious injury in midfield and required several minutes of treatment before being taken away in an ambulance. The game fell away from then on, but Thomas was encouraging up front, as was Drewett and a young lad on the right who I hope gets another chance. The evening was a success on the whole and it was good to see a decent noisy crowd at The Nest.
