ASHFORD TOWN (KENT) 1 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 17/08/04
On a very wet night in the Kent countryside Bromley, wearing a very smart new red away kit, got a point from a game that could have gone either way right to the end.
Bromley started brightly and put home keeper Whitehouse under pressure, Vines saw a header come back off the post and we strung some nice moves together. Ashford then had a spell of pressure and Walker had to make two good saves as Bromley’s defence was opened up. On 19 mins the home side went 1-0 up when Thorogood fired past Walker from close range. The balance seemed to have shifted totally in Ashford’s favour, Vines looked lost playing out of position on left midfield and Drewett didn’t really get going. After 29 mins we got a lifeline back into the game when Amaoko was fouled 20 yards out and Taiwo repeated his feat from Saturday scoring a fantastic free kick. Amoako shot just over soon after and Taiwo was awesome spraying the ball round in midfield. Walker made another good save just before the break from a break away move.
Ashford started the second half stronger and put Bromley under pressure, but Okafor was brilliant at the back making several crucial headers and tackles. Former Raven Joe Wade missed a great chance as the Ravens midfield appeared to be all at sea, in a bizarre formation no one could work out. Watson combined brilliantly with Amoako only to have his well taken goal disallowed for a very dodgy looking offside. Green went close after replacing Amoako and we were further frustrated by a flag happy linesman with an odd interpretation of the offside laws. Ashford went very close once more as we got stretched by their cross field passing. The freakish torrential rain made the final few minutes even more tense as either side could have scored, but it finished all square and about fair.
