BROMLEY 3 ASHFORD TOWN 0 - LEAGUE 18/12/04

Another three points for the new improved Bromley side under George Wakeling and this result was never in doubt once the deadlock was broken just before half time.

We started again with the 5-4-1 formation, with Amoako starting up front despite carrying an injury that made him slightly less mobile, but he still worked very hard all game. Bromley started slowly and were nearly caught out when only a linesman’s flag denied Ashford the lead. The game flowed from end to end with neither side really having clear chances. Bromley finally had a spell on top and Amoako and Drewett combined well to set up Taiwo who shot over. Taiwo went close once more and Amoako went close twice before the goal finally came. On 37 mins Amoako and Drewett once again combined and when the ball ran loose in the box Taiwo calmly placed the ball past two defenders on the line for 1-0. Okafor was in dazzling form down the left really thriving in the new wing back position. Just before half time Bromley made it 2-0 when Taiwo crossed and Drewett somehow managed to loop a header over the keeper Whitehouse from 12 yards. 2-0 at the break and it was really looking good.

The second half saw Bromley dominate the game and deal with any Ashford threat at the back. Potterill was superb in the centre of the backs and Walker was on hand to collect any thing that came his way. Luckett was denied by a great tackle after picking up a Drewett through ball and Henriques saw his effort from the corner tipped over by Whitehouse. The final goal came on 64 mins when Taiwo played a great ball to Amoako who skilfully lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box for 3-0. For a few minutes after the goal Bromley really had their Kentish visitors on the rack. Sub Watson, who replaced an exhausted Luckett, had a header cleared off the line and Taiwo hit the bar from a great free kick. Ashford did rally back into the game, but Walker made the one save he was asked to and the Ravens could have had a fourth when Tiffin fired his effort just over the bar. In the end a comfortable and stylish win against a surprisingly poor side.
