BROMLEY 2 YEADING 2 – LEAGUE 19/03/02

This was very similar to the game at their place in September, but this time the Ref didn’t have the bottle to administer the right colour cards to Yeading’s players for their continuous tackles from behind or intimidation. Typically he did punish any kind of dissent from the fouled Bromley players with yellow cards! The Ravens opened the scoring on 32 mins when the brilliant Drewett brought the ball down in the box and lashed it past Chang in the Yeading goal. Bromley had the best of the entire half, but were sucker punched right on the half when they failed to clear a low cross and Miller tapped in for 1-1.

The second half saw Bromley take the initiative again and Drewett got his second with a fierce drive into the corner of the net on 50 mins. That should have been the beginning of the end for Yeading, but Bromley failed to push on and on 70 mins when Harwood dropped a cross Saroya pounced to equalize. In the dying minutes Bartley broke free and was bearing down on goal when Saroya clearly brought him down on the edge of the box. Amazingly the Ref only showed a yellow card and Chang made two great saves from the free kick and then Bartley’s follow up.

A frustrating night against a team whose entire game plan is based on intimidation and violence, not helped by a weak referee and out inability to take good chances. Lester, Wilfort and Thomas all had to go off with injuries sustained from bad fouls.

Quote for the game, ‘6, you c***!’ or ‘Keeper you look like Nicola from Big Brother!’
