BROMLEY 1 DORKING 0 – LEAGUE – 19/03/05

This game resembled a 90 minute training session of defence against attack with Bromley camped in the Dorking half throughout, but thanks to some resolute defending by the visitors they kept themselves in the game right until the final whistle and gave us a late scare.

Bromley started the game with the 4-5-1 formation again and had the Chicks under pressure from the off. Lone striker Adrian Stone hit the bar, struck the post and also had two shots just wide as he latched on to good balls by Logan and Drewett. As Bromley dominated possession Dorking’s defence got more physical and McGowan and Stone both had to receive treatment for bad fouls. The break through finally came on 36 mins when a Drewett cross was punched out by Baverstock to McGowan who skilfully directed his header back over the keeper and just under the bar for 1-0. The Ravens pushed on and Stone and Drewett both had efforts cleared off the line, but we were given a warning right at the end of the half when Walker was called upon to make a great save from Dorking’s first shot on goal.

The second half began in the same fashion. Logan was denied by Baverstock and as we piled on the pressure we had another effort cleared off the line. The tempo dropped after the hour mark and Dorking came back into the game with Walker saving well from a free kick. Amoako and returning hero Wade Falana came on to boost the attack. Logan had an effort well saved by Baverstock. Drewett and Amoako nearly combined for the second, but the ball just avoided the final touch. Late in the game Dorking had two chances to grab a point, but Walker saved one and the other went tamely wide. Three more points for Bromley and an outside sniff of the playoffs is still there.
