BOGNOR REGIS TOWN 1 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 19/10/02
The tale of two halves really, Bognor took control of the first 45 mins and made the static Bromley defence look very fragile on occasions. They took the lead on 28 mins when Wyatt pounced on confusion between Saunders and Harwood, the defender leaving the ball when it should have been kicked out. Russell received the pass and rolled the ball past the defender on the line for 1-0. The Ravens looked lacklustre with the exception of Amaning, Drewett & and over worked Luckett in centre mid. The break came as blessed relief.
The second half saw Bromley take the initiative and dominate the game, although the first talking point came when one of Bognor’s striker Howell tried to con the Ref by diving as he knocked the ball too far past the advancing Harwood. Fortunately Ref Linnington saw the incident clearly and booked him for diving. The Ravens first clear opportunity to equalize came on 59 mins when Akuamoah’s cross was handled by Rutherford. Unfortunately Kirk Watts hit a poor penalty that was well saved by Stoner. It was Kirk who sent over an excellent cross which Bartley headed firmly against the under side of the bar only for Stoner to palm it round the post. Amoako and later Grant Watts were introduced and provided even more spark to the attacking line and it was Grant who finally levelled the scores on 80 mins. He hit a fierce free kick from 25 yards that crashed into the top right hand corner of the net and sent the Ravens behind the goal into mad celebration! Amoako had the best chance to win the game when he controlled a looping ball with his chest before lobbing the keeper only to see the ball hit the outside of the post and bounce out for a goal kick. A point for Bromley, but it should have been three with far too many missed opportunities to score and another missed penalty.
