Bromley made hard work of beating a very poor side at The Nest in front of a muted crowd, after threats issued by the club in the programme that they would employ security guards to throw out and ban supporters behind the goal who swore!
Bromley dominated virtually the whole of the first half with Martini hardly tested, but it wasn’t until 35 mins that they were provided with a golden opportunity to score. The star of the game Kirk Watts was fouled in the box, but Luckett rolled his penalty wide of the goal for the third time this season!
Finally it came down to Kirk Watts to do the job in injury time when he was put through by a ball from the back and fought off a defender to place the ball under the keeper and make it 1-0. Even deeper into stoppage time Kirk hit a wonderful strike from 25 yards that cannoned off the bar and bounced to safety.
The second half saw Bromley looking lacklustre and Ashford looking even worse. Most supporters were chatting amongst themselves as the ball was punted aimlessly up and down the pitch. Then on 72 mins sub Wilfort had a good run down the right and squared the ball for Drewett to beat the keeper with a fine first time strike. Hopes were high that we would go on to score more, but only 3 mins later The Ravens gifted the hapless visitors an opportunity to get back in the game when Vines intercepted a cross and headed it back to Martini, or so he thought! Sadly Martini was standing next to him and they both watched the ball roll into an empty net! With 10 mins left Ashford had their best chance to get a point, but this time Martini pulled off a fine save from a fierce long distance drive.
The game ended to a stifled cheer from the fans who realised that Bromley had only just won against a team they should have destroyed.
