BROMLEY 1 BANSTEAD ATHLETIC 1– LEAGUE 21/10/03

For as good as Saturday was this was awful! Bromley were held and at times dominated by a hard working, but unspectacular Banstead side.

The visitors went ahead on 35 seconds when Beale smashed in a long range effort before most fans had even taken their places behind the goal. Banstead had two more great chances to go further in front during the first half, whereas Bromley didn’t really create anything in front of goal. The Ravens were out worked in midfield and shut down when in possession, resorting to long balls over the top which were easily dealt with. The half ended with an air of despair floating around the ground.

Two minutes into the second half a fierce cross from the right was knocked in by Huggins at the far post and the scores were level. Hopes were high of a better display in the coming 45 mins, but that was as good as it got. Passes went astray, moves broke down and we were caught in possession far too many times. It was only thanks to Joe Vines that we got a point after he cleared the ball off the line when Harwood was chipped. Huggins went closest for the Ravens when he lobbed a stranded Tony Webb, but his effort fell just wide. Amoako was brought on far too late and the midfield without McKoy was appalling, Ex-Bromley men Aaron Day and Marcel Dennis both had good games. Banstead deserved their point and maybe even more than that.
