MOLESEY 2 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE - 21/12/02
Bromley failed to register even a point away to an under strength Molesey side who basically just wanted it more than many of the players lining up for the Ravens.
We started really well and went in front within 2 mins when Amoako opened up the home defence with some great foot work and blasted his low shot against the post only for it to bounce into the net off the diving keeper's back!
For the next 25 mins Bromley played really well, but their play broke down around the edge of the box with Grant Watts and Amoako just not seeming to be on the same wavelength up front. Slowly Molesey worked their way back into the game and began to threaten the Ravens' well-drilled offside trap. Their rewards came with 5 mins left of the half, when Harris gave away a penalty for a clumsy push, which Kimba coolly converted into the corner of the net. Only 3 mins later Bromley were again opened up at the back by powerful running from midfield and when Martini fumbled a low drive Burton pounced to score from 6 yards and finish the half at 2-1.
The second half was a story of baffling tactics, missed chances by Bromley, awful midfield play by Maytt and Wilfort, and Molesey counter attacks. Amoako had two one on ones well saved by keeper Harris, who also saved 3 headers from impressive sub Falana and one from Luckett. Harris and Vines both headed corners just over and Falana also had a shot that just cleared the bar, but it was not to be. As the game wore on, Martini was called on to save at the feet of the home forwards when they broke out, after being gifted possession by the hapless Bromley centre midfield.
Chairman Jerry Dolke stood with the fans behind the goal in the second half and was obviously furious with what he saw from his team. When asked what chance of promotion we had now, he answered, ‘None’ and that, ‘Only Amoako & Drewett came out of the match with any credit at all.’ Any fan present would have been filled with dread at the prospect of what Boxing Day would hold.
Quote for the game: ’You won’t win anything with a midfield of Myatt & Wilfort.’
Team: Martini, Smith, Luckett, Vines, Manuel, Harris, Drewett, Myatt, Amoako, G Watts, K Watts.
