BARKING & EHU 2 BROMLEY 4 – LONDON SENIOR CUP 3RD RD 21/12/04

Another win under George Wakeling and this was probably the toughest opposition we’ve faced since the great man took over again, although the East Londoners were not helped by having to field their reserve left back in goal!

We started with the 5-4-1 formation again and after a lively start from both teams we took the lead on 5 mins. Amoako latched on to a long ball and lobbed Quincey from the edge of the box. Both sides missed chances after that and Barking had a spell on top. They equalised on 11 mins when Gorman latched on to a long ball down the middle and volleyed home for 1-1. Barking looked a strong team and put us under real pressure, but we toughed it out and then came back into things, playing some nice stuff. Luckett shot just over and Amoako was denied by Quincey when getting on to a great ball by Drewett. Taiwo was involved in a clash with Gorman after the Barking man appeared to stamp on him. The half ended all square.

The second half saw Barking start strong and they imposed themselves physically with Drewett receiving a heavy blow to the face off the ball. There was a scuffle following this, but ref Crouch didn’t show any cards. You may remember him from the LSC Final of 2003 when he sent off three of our players! Luckett headed a Tiffin cross just over and then George changed things by bringing on Watson for Colin and switching to 4-4-2. This worked almost immediately when Watson combined with Amoako and then played in Taiwo who finished brilliantly to make it 2-1 on 73 mins. Only 5 mins later Barking were level when Haughton was on hand to turn in a corner, cashing in on poor marking. Bromley bounced back though and on 86 mins they took the lead again. Okafor chased down their right back and his back pass to Quincey was scuffed to Amoako who returned the ball past the makeshift keeper for 3-2. The game was still up for grabs until Amoako grabbed his hat trick when latching on to a long ball with his explosive pace and slotting the ball past Quincey for 4-2 on 89 mins. In injury time Potterill headed a corner off the line, but we held out and secured our place in the next round.
