BROMLEY 1 BURGESS HILL TOWN 0 – LEAGUE 22/01/05
A brilliant Colin Luckett free kick on the hour won us all three points, lifting us up to fourth, in a tough battle to break down a stubborn hardworking Burgess Hill.
The first incident of note was when Adrian Stone had to go off injured with a hamstring injury, being replaced by Adolph Amoako. Straight away Adolph went close from a Tiffin cross and also was brought down for what looked a clear penalty, only for it to be waved away. Burgess then broke and were only denied by a great Walker save. Amoako had a headed goal disallowed for offside, while Walker was called into action again at the other end. Just before the break Drewett was denied by a great save from Gannon who’s ‘wolfman mullet’ caused great amusement behind the goal. Ref Daly seemed happy to let quite a few nasty tackles go, but the game never threatened to get out of hand thanks to the players.
The second half saw Bromley take the attacking initiative. Gannon saved from Amoako and we had a few wild shots from the edge of the box. The Hillians looked dangerous on the break, but the defence was solidly marshalled by Potterill. Carroll and Luckett both went close for the Ravens before the goal finally came. Amoako was fouled just outside the box and Luckett stepped up to deliver a great dead ball into the top right hand corner for 1-0 on 62 mins. Bromley pushed on and Carroll saw his great overhead kick tipped over by the purple clad mulletted custodian. The Hill then had a spell of pressure. Luckett was on hand to clear a ball off the line and Walker had to make another good save as they put us under pressure. We came through it though and then went on to comfortably see the game out and secure a vital win, with the only concern being a knock to Danny Carroll’s ankle late on.
