By the time we took the lead on 22 mins we could easily have been 0-3 down, but as we’ve found out already this season you have to take your chances. Walton didn’t and we went on to win comfortably.
A massive thanks should go to the Ground Staff who had the pitch looking lush despite 2 days of constant rain! It was then down to the players to make it worth their while and it took a while for the re-shuffled side to settle into some kind of shape. Bartley played in the back three, with Adolph & Eddie Ak up front and Harney on the left. After three close shaves from Walton attacks Akuamoah put us in front finishing neatly with a sharp turn on the 6 yard box. Almost straight after Luckett had a fierce drive which hit both posts and bounced away, but 2 mins later we really seized the advantage when Luckett smashed home a first time shot after fine work from Amaning and Drewett on the right. Martini made a couple of good saves from long range efforts, but Bromley went in 2-0 up and Bartley was looking good in the heart of defence.
10 mins into the second half Bartley got his head to a corner and with the keeper stranded it dropped sweetly between defenders on the line and put us 3-0 up. On the hour strangely after their No.4 Dawson had been subbed he was shown the red card for something he said to the Linesman possibly! Amoako troubled the defence all night and nearly embarrassed their keeper Edwards when he out paced him to a loose ball, but his defence saved his blushes, as they did when a looping ball sailed over him later on only for the Soul-Glo No.2 to clear the ball as it rolled towards the goal. By the end of the game we had 4 strikers on the pitch and were playing a bizarre kind of formation. There was even a stage when The Ravens had the ball in possession for several minutes knocking it round the pitch! With 10 mins to go Saunders collided with one of their strikers and the linesman gave a penalty. Comfirmation that it was not Walton’s night came as Martini dived to his right and blocked Harkness’ penalty and the hapless taker headed the rebound wide! The final whistle was greeted with a loud cheer and a prolonged ovation for the Bromley players.
