Bizarrely Northwood played the first 20 mins with 10 men despite having 3 subs on the bench! They were waiting for the late arrival of Yaku their top striker. The game was a fairly scrappy affair affected by the cold and wild windy conditions and didn’t really get going until Northwood’s Nolan blatantly tried to break Kirk Watts leg. Fortunately his shin pad took the brunt of the impact and it only went to fire Kirk up! Once he had recovered he took the ball on the half way line beat 4 men and then squared a pass to his brother Grant who slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Just before the break Wilfort was next to feel the full force of a blatant attempt to injure him and he had to go off injured at the break.
The second half saw our high placed visitors put on the pressure, but despite Harwood having one of his eccentric days in goal he made a couple of fine saves. As the hour mark approach the nerves were jangling, but there was to be no repeat of the last two weeks and we went on to score a second. Kirk Watts latched onto the end of a slick passing move and easily beat the keeper.
From then on the flag happy linesman halted most of our attacks, but we were solid at the back and deserved the three points.
Quote for the game, ‘They’ve started with 10 men!’ Plus several unprintable outbursts to their No.2!
Harwood, Lester, Harney, Frost, Harris, Wilfort, Myatt, Drewett, Bartley, G Watts, K Watts
Subs: Mensar, Gibson, Silk.
