BROMLEY 0 FOLKESTONE INVICTA 5 – Kent Cup Semi Final 23/03/04
Hard as it is to believe from the score line, for a twenty minute period in the first half Bromley actually dominated the game and had loads of possession, but they failed to turn it into goals and were eventually humiliated by an Invicta side who destroyed us at set pieces. Playing 4-5-1 Bromley didn’t really look adventurous enough, but when they did get in the box Bobby and Kevin George had half-chances and Willy headed just wide from a corner. Our nice build up play though counted for nothing when on 38 mins Folkestone scored from a corner when dreadful marking and a flapping Harwood saw Flanaghan head home. Then only 2 mins later Flanaghan scored again when Bromley failed three times to clear their lines from another corner. Even at 2-0 we might have had a chance of getting back into the game but on 42 mins it was all over when Chandler scored from 45 yards out sending a free kick from out wide sailing over a stranded Danny Harwood. The Bromley fans who had sung all through the first half were stunned into silence as the half time whistle went.
Folkestone tore Bromley apart from the off in the second half. Former Cray man Watkins smashed in the fourth on 52 mins. Macca eventually switched to 4-4-2, but it was far too late to change anything and although Falana and Paul Vines worked hard there was no reward. Hogg hit the fifth just after the hour and from that point Invicta took the piss and even subbed their keeper who must have been suffering from boredom! Folkestone were just too quick, too hungry and too direct for us too handle and we passed ourselves into dead ends and got out-battled. Finally the end came with the score at 0-5 and the knowledge that out season was now over as we clapped the players from the pitch and they thanked us for our efforts.
