BROMLEY 4 MOLESEY 0 – LEAGUE 23/08/03
Bromley conducted a ruthless destruction of a nasty, cynical and talentless Molesey side whose only game plan was to kick us into submission and punt the ball out of play. To the Ravens players credit they refused to rise to the intimidation tactics of the Moles and played them off the pitch. The only down side to the whole game was the knock which Joe Vines took in the first half, which eventually saw him go off injured.
The game started in a very low key fashion with Bromley playing some nice football, but still looking subdued after Tuesday. This was also reflected among the crowd who took a while to warm up too. Inspiration came on 24 mins when a crashing header from Forbes was parried by Keeper Paul and Amoako pounced in the six yard box to put Bromley 1-0 up. After a water break due to the very humid conditions Bromley soon made it 2-0. This time Reid powered a header towards goal and Amoako once again was on hand to turn the ball in to double the lead. Davis Smith was on the receiving end of some very rough treatment including being punched and kicked off the ball. Referee Mr Beck failed to show any cards to Molesey players and they took it as encouragement to continue to kick anyone in a black and white shirt, mostly late or off the ball. 2-0 at the break and Bromley on top.
The start of the second half saw Molesey have their best spell and on 50 mins they were awarded a penalty for a Forbes push on Bradford. Harwood though was not to be beaten, saving the kick from Dowling and the rebound! The Ravens recovered from the let off and began to run the show again, mainly being frustrated by persistent fouls or a tendency to over play around the box.
Drewett made his first appearance of the season from the bench and looked good. Finally on 89 mins sub Grant Watts put a more realistic shine on the score line with a sublime solo run and finish, leaving several Molesey defenders on their asses as he walked the ball in. In injury time with Bromley rampant a Potterill cross was firmly headed in by Willy at the far post and it finished 4-0, which was fair reward for the respective displays put on by both sides. Neville Southall should be ashamed of his team.
