BROMLEY 1 LEATHERHEAD 1 – LEAGUE 23/11/04
Bromley were cheated out of two points by a disgraceful refereeing display from Mr Beadle, who failed to contain the over physical Leatherhead style and then sent two of our players off!
The game started with Bromley, playing 3-4-3, slightly on top, but not really creating many chances, Amoako coming closest a couple of times. The Tanners then went on a spree of terrible challenges with Walker, Watson and Henriques all having to have treatment, but no punishment for the fouls. Tanners keeper Dunn made a great save from an Arkwright header and then Amoako had an effort cleared off the line by Hendry. Just before half time a free kick was awarded for another awful foul and Beer was booked for kicking the ball away. The lack of respect for Mr Beadle was shown by the fact that he refused to come over and see the ref who eventually had to walk over to Beer to show the card. From the free kick Henriques headed home from close range to put us deservedly 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw Bromley start brightly. Huggins was denied by Dunn as we played some really nice stuff. Drewett was floored by another unpunished foul as the officials did all they could to help the visitors. The Tanners had a spell of pressure around the hour mark, but Bromley got back on top with Amoako having an effort saved and then Huggins was brought down on the edge of the box as he raced clear. The assailant only received a yellow card and the free kick was blocked. On 75 mins Henriques had a sliding effort hooked off the line and from the breakaway Dave Stevens showed his class and equalised with a great turn and shot. This was the Tanners first real effort on goal! Things went from bad to worse on Bromley’s next attack when Watson was dragged to the ground by Beer and when a penalty was not awarded he reacted badly to provocation by Harper and was sent off for a head butt. With Bromley still fuming Huggins was attacked by a knee high two footed challenge from behind, which only resulted in a yellow card and Rose was sent off for pushing the Tanners player away from the injured striker. Huggins had to go off injured as a result and Bromley had 10 mins to hold on with 9 men! In fact the Ravens did more than that and could have won it with the visitors seemingly happy with the point they had managed to kick out of us. We were just too stretched by the lack of players to force home a winner and the game ended all square.
