BROMLEY 2 LEATHERHEAD 0 – LEAGUE 24/01/04
For 90% of this game Bromley dominated their visitors from the Surrey suburbs and really played some lovely football, but we didn’t make it easy on ourselves and only killed the game off very late on. The victory was somewhat spoiled by a nasty injury to John Wilfort who had to go to hospital following a horrific foul by Ekoku which sparked a mass brawl! It’s never dull between us and the Tanners...
The Ravens got off to the perfect start when a Hammond cross was knocked down by Falana and buried in the net by Harney on 2 mins. George and Hammond tormented the big and cumbersome Tanners back line and we really should have made our possession count. George went close twice and McKoy had a shot tipped over by Johnston. Just before the break we nearly paid dear for our lack of more goals when Harwood had to make a great save diving to his left.
The second half saw Leatherhead come back at us for a while. Harwood saved well again, they had a penalty shout and Falana made one great block tackle on the edge of the box. Bromley then took the game by the scruff of the neck again and had the majority of the attacking play. George hit the post after a great run from the corner flag into the box and also when close with a header from a Falana flick on. Wade went off with his continuing calf injury and Amaoko came on to trouble the defence instead. With 6 mins left a George header fell to an unmarked Amaoko in the six yard box and he slotted home to secure the win. Then came the awful challenge on Wilfort by Ekoku, which saw the former Sutton man sent off and Danny Smith was also sent off for trying to settle the score with him. The ruckus spilled over into the tunnel and off the pitch but, once the fight calmed down the final whistle came and we could hail our team for a great win. The make shift defence were brilliant again and Hammond was truly the boss in midfield with a great show from McKoy too.
