THAMES ESTUARY PRE-SEASON TOUR 2004
TILBURY 0 BROMLEY 3 – FRIENDLY 24/07/04
Quite a promising start to the pre-season campaign as Macca fielded two almost entirely different teams in either half.
What looked to be more likely the strongest eleven started the game, with Potterill, Drewett, Amnoako and Watson combining well against a very rugged Tilbury back line. Keeper Alex O’Reilly had a very good first half making two great saves and commanding his box well. New arrivals Solomon Taywo and Scott Bennetts looked good in midfield and should give the problem area from last season a new dimension. Bromley took the lead on 25 mins when a cross from the left was headed into his own net by a Tilbury defender under pressure from Watson. After a water break the Ravens went two up when Drewett finished well when one on one with the Dockers keeper. Tilbury did have two chances cleared off the line from set pieces, but Bromley looked the better side.
The second half saw wholesale changes. Bobby George and Paul Vines led the line up front, but weren’t given a great deal to work with. Keeper Matt Martin did ok when called upon. The game slowed in tempo, with Tilbury looking strong, but unspectacular across the middle. The only goal came on 78 mins when Vines did brilliantly to work his way past the home defence and round the keeper for 3-0.
Hard to know what to make of some of the new faces. I guess we’ll get more of a picture as the warm up progresses.
Quote for the game: ‘I think West Indies can still win the match!’ – Mash.
