BROMLEY 1 WORTHING 3 – LEAGUE - 24/08/02
Bromley’s poor start to the season continued at The Nest and it was again a tale of missed chances. It’s no exaggeration to say that The Ravens had 20 good chances to score and they only took one!
The tone was set on 8 mins when Luckett put a penalty wide of the goal following a dubious foul on Akuamoah. Worthing then spotted our weakness and continually played the ball down their left and over the hapless full back Lester. Their first goal via this route came on 18 mins when the ball was crossed to Jones to score. The same act was repeated on 25 mins - this time Knee took the ball round the stranded Martini and his shot was crashed into the roof of his own net by Harris as he attempted to clear. Finally Bromley took a chance on 35 mins, after a series of great crosses throughout the half from Watts, which saw an unbelievably inept display of heading by Saunders & Harris, Bartley nodded in after Watts completely turned the full back inside out. Just before the half Akuamoah was injured when challenging for a lose ball in the area and did not return for the restart.
Bromley were all over the shop at the back in the second half although they still created several chances going forward, yet again the heading from crosses let the great service of Watts down. Thompson looked off the pace and disinterested and Macca’s mistake of bringing him on was compounded when Bartley was taken off for Amoako, leaving two 5’8” strikers challenging for high balls and crosses. Amoako battled hard with little support for the last 20 mins. On 85 mins Carrington completed the scoring when he received the ball on the edge of the box totally unmarked, volleying in past Martini. The Moroccan Keeper then gifted Worthing two more chances to score by attempting to play outside his box, one went just wide and one hit the bar! This triggered a fierce angry response from some Bromley fans who now realise that another season of struggling against the drop is ahead, watching an over paid, under motivated, disjointed team. A bloodied Myatt was seen yelling at his fellow players as the team spirit crumbled before his eyes.
