BROMLEY 4 WHYTELEAFE 0 – LEAGUE 24/08/04
There isn’t a person inside Hayes Lane that would have seen this coming after 44 mins. Bromley were struggling to hold off Whyteleafe and not really creating chances, but then came two first half injury time goals and the whole game changed.
With Watson and Ipka missing from Saturday's team we looked very fragile at the back and up front during the first half. Amoako did go close with a header, but we were opened up on several occasions and got off lightly when former Raven Mark Tompkins hit the post with a fierce drive on 22 mins. Leafe were all over us for a spell and Bromley looked disorganised and rattled, the midfield just disappeared. The Ravens came through this though and started to make some good breaks down field. Okafor did well down the left and his cross was only just blocked before Vines could connect and Bennetts headed a Taiwo cross over. Just before the break Bromley got a corner and Arkwright flicked it on only for Williams to head the ball into his own net. Seconds later Amoako was pulled back on the edge of the box and Taiwo stepped up to score another breath taking free kick, curling it round the wall and into the top corner. As if by magic it was 2-0 at half time!
Leafe came out fighting in the second half and should have pulled one back when some sloppy defending gifted a Leafe player with an open goal, but he blasted over! Visiting keeper Wastell made a great save from Amoako before on 51 mins Adolph managed to bundle in a Drewett cross and make it 3-0. Now Bromley were playing really exciting football and had Whyteleafe on the rack. The final goal came on 63 mins when Frost headed home a corner past a stunned green and white defence. Walker was solid in goal and never looked flustered, Macca made three changes and we lost our shape, but still showed some flashes of good football and never looked in trouble. Watsell was a good sport in the away goal and their fans kept singing. It was one of their former men Danny Arkwright who was man of the match. Other former Ravens Richard Thompson and Dean Thomas were very quiet.
