WHYTELEAFE 0 BROMLEY 3 - LEAGUE - 25/03/05
A stunning second half display, including two goals from Wade Falana, saw Bromley keep hope alive with a fine Good Friday win on a sunny day in front of a good crowd in leafy Surrey.
The first half was very even. Whyteleafe signalled their intentions in the warm up by pumping balls from one side of the pitch to the other, and this continued into the game. Bromley, playing 4-5-1, had the first chances with Carroll going close with a header and another corner was cleared off the line. Leafe had their own chances with Walker making a good save and Henriques making some great saving tackles. We lost our way being sucked into playing long balls and going too direct. Injuries caused George to reshuffle to a 4-4-2 formation, after McLeod and Stone limped off and were replaced by Falana and Amoako. The closest either side came was when Falana flicked a header narrowly over, just before the half.
The second half saw Bromley come out flying and really grab the game by the balls. A Logan cross from the left came out to Falana who waited for the ball to come across his body before smashing the ball into the net on the half volley. Before the home defence could even settle it was 2-0. Luckett crossed, Falana flicked on and Drewett bravely headed home under a heavy challenge from keeper Wastell. Leafe dusted themselves down and did come back into the game creating a few chances, with Walker making one very good save from Tompkins. Henriques and Potterill both looking especially solid in defence. Bromley nearly made it 3-0 when Okafor hit the bar with a spectacular over headkick and Wastell saved well from the rebound. The game was finally killed off on 69 mins when Falana broke clear from the halfway line, holding off the challenge of the defender, before drawing Wastell out and rolling the ball past him for 3-0. Walker made one good save late on and Falana nearly grabbed his hat trick when directing a header just over after good work by McGowan and Drewett. The game ended with the Bromley fans behind the goal saluting their players and knowing that hope was still just about alive.
