ASHFORD TOWN (MIDDX) 1 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 25/08/03

For a long period of this game Bromley fans would have bitten your hand off for a point, but after a late rally as we came away from Short Lane knowing we could have had all three!

Bromley started with a very defensive formation and Luckett looked a fish out of water playing left midfield. We were jaded and lacklustre for the majority of the first half and just went through the motions. Ashford were strong and played to their strengths. Many teams will find them difficult to beat this season. On 14 mins Luckett committed a foul out wide and the free kick was headed home by Croxford for 1-0. Bromley did come back into the game slowly from that point, but didn’t adapt well to the bumpy dry brown pitch. The closest the Ravens came was when Reid headed a good cross from the left against the post. By the end of the half many of the players were arguing with each other and only Vines and Harwood were on top of their games.

Ashford’s keeper Burgess had a good game and handled the banter brilliantly throughout. As the game began to drift Macca introduced Kirk Watts, Adolph Amoako and Gary Drewett and the impact was noticeable to everyone. With more drive and attacking options the Ravens began to dominate the game and finally on 80 mins, following a corner, Forbes connected to a Wade cross and headed us level. We could have gone on to win it late on with Amoako and Watts going close, but a draw was about fair to both sides.
