BROMLEY 0 CARSHALTON ATHLETIC 1 – LEAGUE 26/03/02

Another disappointing display in a local derby. We were out battled by Graham Roberts’ well drilled team. They simply wanted it more than us and we found it impossible to get past their strong defence. We went close with an indirect free kick in the first half and Drewett had our only clear chance just after the break when he shot weakly direct at their keeper. Bartley was isolated up front and Thomas looked weak and well off the pace.

Harwood made some good saves, but he was powerless to stop the only goal of the game on 67 mins, when a low drive from the left of the box hit someone in the six yard area and flew in. I think Costello was credited. We really have no threat without Kirk Watts and were frustrated all game as our players ran into dead ends and lost possession. I don’t like Roberts, but he is a good manager and his side showed excellent commitment to a well constructed game plan and looked threatening on the break. There was no blaming the lack of atmosphere on this defeat.

Quote for the game, ‘I’ve seen you make that right hand salute before Roberts!’

Harwood, Frost, Harney, Drewett, Hollidge, Harris, Silk, McGowan, Bartley, G Watts, Thomas.
