STAINES TOWN 1 BROMLEY 2 – LEAGUE – 26/04/03

Wheatsheaf Lane has undergone quite an overhaul since we last played there in 2000 - the new stand looks great, the bar was nice, the welcome was friendly and we managed to grab three points – so not a bad day at all!

Bromley fell behind after 3 mins when slack defending allowed Johnson to head in at the far post, but we did get going soon after this blow and started to put Staines under pressure. Lovett made two nice saves from David Smith and Kirk Watts, but in general, although our approach play was good we failed to really test him. Danny looked strong in our goal, but Staines were having the best of the midfield - going into the break it looked like it was going to be another one of those games.

After only 3 mins of the second half Wade Falana made sure we’d get something from the game when he skilfully finished from 10 yards after pouncing on a loose ball in the box. Despite a couple of worrying slips at the back the Ravens pretty much had the best of the half and when called upon Danny Harwood made two great saves. Amoako came on as sub and had one great run and shot before having to go off again injured quickly following by a limping Falana. Grant Watts came on and looked very lively combining well with the very quick David Smith. Finally on 85 mins Grant got the ball out wide and cut in to strike a wonderful goal into the opposite corner to give us the win we probably deserved. It felt good to win, but tinged with worry over the mounting injury list for the cup final on Wednesday.

Quote for the game: ’Will we have any players left for Wednesday?’

Team: Harwood, Smith, Harney, Vines, Luckett, McKoy, Myatt, Wilfort, Smith Jnr, Falana, K Watts.

Subs: Manuel, Amoako, Amaning, Pearce, G Watts.
