HERTFORD TOWN 1 BROMLEY 0 – BRYCO CUP 1ST ROUND 26/10/04
Bromley sent up a Reserve side to Hertfordshire on this cold Tuesday night and weren’t quite up to the job as they were edged out of the League Cup 1-0.
Suleymanoglu started brightly and after out pacing the home defence he hit the bar with his firm shot. Former Bromley player Curtis Johnson had a goal disallowed for offside soon after as the home team took the initiative. On 16 mins a wayward pass in midfield was intercepted by Roberts and he crashed home a fine goal from the edge of the box for 1-0 to the Herts. A few tasty tackles flew in and Matt Kember got stuck in as you would expect. Hertford hit the post just before the break, but the sides went in at 1-0.
The second half saw the play go from end to end, but there were no real chances for either side. With 15 mins left Hertford hit the bar and then almost straight away sub Grant Watts grazed the bar with a great free kick for Bromley. Another former Raven Dean Wordsworth came on for the last 5 mins, but didn’t really get involved. Home keeper Robinson didn’t have to make a single save in the whole game! Henriques had a steady game at centre back, but not many of the young team staked any claim for a first team spot in the near future, although their effort could not be faulted.
Quote for the game: ‘Macca is away in Scotland contemplating on Saturday’s game.’ Team: Hunter, Silk, Parker, M Kember, Henriques, Stradwick, Hill, Marino, Hind, Suleymanoglu, Pace.
Subs: Watts, Windsor, Taiwo, Bennetts, Walker.
