BROMLEY 2 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 1 – KENT SNR CUP QTR FINAL 27/01/04

Bromley made their way through to the semi-final of the Kent Senior Cup with a good display from a very young side with all five of the subs under 21! The Ravens dominated a good majority of the game, but couldn’t ever really make it safe by turning their possession and stylish approach play into more goals. They took the lead on 14 mins when Amoako turned and shot sharply in the box from 10 yards and beat the young Angels keeper Hawkins. The second goal came on 28 mins and was quite special. Amoako beat the Tonbridge back line for pace and cut the ball back to George who crashed in the second. On 36 mins the Angels came back into the game when a shot by Cass was deflected past Harwood off Kember. Just before the break Harwood collided with Powell challenging for a 50/50 ball and was down receiving treatment for some time. He looked very shaken by the incident and Paul Vines was warmed up for the whole half time period just in case Danny couldn’t carry on. Just before the break Kember was lucky to stay on after pulling back a Tonbridge striker who was running through on goal. Really the game should have been out of sight by then.

The Angels had a lot more play at the start of the second half, but Bromley’s makeshift defence held out and on the occasions Tonbridge did get shots off they flew high or wide! Potterill had to go off injured after a 50/50 challenge that left him injured and he was replaced by youth team left back Edwin Mante making his debut. Drewett hit the post from distance and Hawkins made a good save from a Luckett free kick after Drewett had been cynically kicked to the ground. Referee Mason was happy to book players for silly things, but let some very clumsy fouls go unpunished when the young Bromley front line embarrassed their sluggish Doc Martens opponents. The youngsters all shined, Mante had a steady debut, Paul Vines looked class when he came on and Amoako was awesome as usual. We could have done with another goal, but the defence was good enough to stop any real threat to our place in the semi finals.
