BROMLEY 3 BARKING & EAST HAM UNITED 2 – LEAGUE 27/04/02

The last game of the season and Bromley managed to summon up a winning performance and finish outside the bottom three.

After a lively start Bartley put The Ravens in front with a sweet left foot volley into the top corner on 12 mins. There were a couple of flash points which saw Bartley booked for dissent and Hollidge get flattened on more than one occasion without any punishment to the opposition. Barking then came back into the game and drew level on 31 mins when Allen found some space in the box and beat Harwood with a well placed shot. 6 mins later the awful referee awarded them a penalty for a very soft handball, which Black smashed home for a 1-2 half time score line.

From the first attack of the second half Bromley drew level, a corner bounced around the area and was directed towards goal by Manuel before Wilfort smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 3 yards out, hitting it so hard it nearly went over! Harwood stepped up and kept the scores level with a couple of great saves as Barking again came back into things. Yet again Hollidge was on the end of some terrible fouls, but no cards were shown and Kirk Watts had to go off injured. On 85 mins Thomas grabbed Bromley all three points, he received the ball wide out on the left and cut in before smashing a low drive past Ruston into the corner of the net. It was met with a celebration to match!

Sadly Ref. Mr Basten wanted to be the star of the game and showed Bartley his second yellow card late on, when it seemed to most people he had just kicked the ball into the general direction of where a free kick should be taken!

Carl received a rousing send off from the HLO’s and so did the rest of the players moments later as the game ended, made even warmer by the news of Whyteleafe’s defeat.

Quote for the game, ‘You know that Hancock film… What The Birds? No that was Hitchcock!’
