BROMLEY 3 DARTFORD 0 - FA CUP 2nd Qualifying Round 27/09/03

A really good solid attacking performance by the Ravens booked their place into the next round of the competition and provided the majority of the 500+ crowd with a great afternoon’s entertainment.

From the start of the game Bromley looked sharper and put The Darts under pressure with Drewett and Hammond tormenting their defence. After only 4 mins Amoako put us in front. Yet again he was the sharpest player in the box and was on hand to turn a loose ball past Simpson in the Dartford goal. The whole half belonged to Bromley with Amoako, Forbes and Huggins all going close before on 29 mins Amoako got his second. Drewett made a fine run down the right and delivered the perfect cross for Adolph who powerfully turned his header into the roof of the net from 12 yards. The Nest was in rapture and the HLU in fine voice. At the other end Darts fans got involved with the stewards who then came round and asked us not to antagonize them any further as they were ‘looking for trouble’! The half ended with the Ravens still on top and we were all hoping that we’d carry it on into the second period.

Dartford started the second half much stronger and Bromley were a little too relaxed for their own good at times. Harwood had to make two fine saves to maintain the advantage and for a while we looked rattled. Macca introduced Reid, Luckett and George and they all gave the side a lift, which led to us bossing the last 15 mins and going on to seal the win. Huggins was brought down in the box on 80 mins and he scored the penalty that followed, but ref Gosling ordered it to be re-taken for encroachment. The second penalty was saved by Simpson who then turned and gave the wanker sign to the Bromley fans behind the goal! Within 2 mins he was made to regret this action when the Darts defence was carved open and Reid walked the ball past him to make it 3-0. Reid was booked for over celebrating by the killjoy Gosling. With time almost up Simpson’s day was further blighted by a nasty looking clash of heads with Huggins that left him in a really bad way. He was stretchered off and later taken to hospital. The game finished a little low key because of this, but it was a fine display by Bromley and a well deserved win.
