CHESHUNT 2 BROMLEY 1 – FA TROPHY SECOND ROUND 27/11/04

Our FA Trophy run came to a disappointing end at the hands of a workmanlike Cheshunt side who were simply better than us on the day.

The game started evenly, but Bromley had the first real chance when Okafor was played through only to be denied by keeper Ling who did well to get down to the low shot. A good move saw the ball played back to Henriques who shot just over from distance. Cheshunt came back into the game and missed two great chances to score from close range, which both went wide. Bennetts had a shot just wide before the break came with the game tied at 0-0.

The second half started with Henriques having another shot go just over, but the Ambers took control of the game and their pressure paid off on 57 mins when a cross from the right was headed home by Grieves. Going behind seem to spur Bromley on and they had a great spell following the goal. The Ravens equalised on 61 mins when a move involving Rose and Huggins saw the ball come out to Henriques on the edge of the box. He drilled his shot low and into the corner for 1-1. Only minutes later Tutu could have put us in front, but his header went just over from a corner. Cheshunt steadied themselves and then came right back at Bromley once more. They got their vital break through on 74 mins when Archer got the ball in the midfield and ran half the length of the pitch unchallenged before taking the ball around Walker and tap in for 2-1! Bromley never really threatened after this. Young debutant sub Austin Gachero was taken out when he tried to attack the Ambers back line. Just before the end Grieves missed a great chance to make it 3-1, but once again was wide of the target and the game finished with a tired looking Bromley well beaten.
