BROMLEY 2 WHYTELEAFE 2 – LEAGUE 28/02/04

Bromley staged a second half rally to come back from 2-0 down against ten man Whyteleafe’s reserve side and got some crumbs of respectability out of what looked set to be another desperate game at the Nest.

Leafe were in front on 3 mins when a smart quick move down the left was finished off by Dickson. Bromley were stunned and didn’t really get going in the whole of the first half apart from one Paul Vines effort that just went over. The depleted Surrey side went further in front on 36 mins when a curling Dickson free kick from wide out on the right bounced directly in. The Ravens set pieces were awful and the general lack of ideas left the small home crowd in despair at the break.

Macca acted at half time by bringing on Potterill for Hammond and sub keeper Dean Mann for Danny Harwood, switching to three at the back. The game turned in Bromley’s favour on 50 mins when Mark Dickinson was ordered off after elbowing Paul Vines off the ball. Luckily it was spotted by the linesman and as the ball was in play at the time a penalty was awarded for the assault. Amoako tucked away the penalty and it was now up to Bromley to make their advantage count. Zahana-Oni had a goal disallowed for offside on 68 mins after a wonderful move between him and Amoako, which lit up the crowd for a few seconds. Mann made a wonderful save from Barclay, which saw him collide with the post on the way down and then Lidbury made a great stop from Kevin George at the other end.

Finally on 89mins Bromley equalised when a corner was headed home powerfully by Mark Willy. Leafe Keeper Michael Lidbury then became involved with a young fan, which he carried on after the final whistle. Bizarrely the Ravens didn’t really go for it in injury time and played far too deep passing the ball along the back. It was a shame that they didn’t take their opportunity for three points and we were caught offside far too many times against a very sluggish defence. Macca should have thrown on Falana and put three up front with 20mins to go.
