WORTHING 0 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 28/12/02
A vital 3 points was gained by the sea thanks mainly to Chuck Martini who put in an awesome goalkeeping display making several crucial saves.
The first half was fairly even, but the home side turned their possession into chances whereas Bromley rarely troubled Worthing’s custodian May. Martini’s brilliance compensated for a very slow looking back line and a slightly fragile midfield. The Ravens best chance came late in the half, but Amoako was ruled offside after turning in Falana’s header.
The second half saw the Bromley midfield strengthened by Amaning’s introduction for Wilfort, and Harney and Smith both putting in good displays at wingback. Still Martini was the key in denying the Rebels in front of goal, as they successfully used the ball over the top of out three centre backs. The vital goal came on 78 mins when Harney won the ball on the left. His cross was only part cleared to Smith who put a great ball over from the right for Amoako to head in off the post despite the valiant efforts of a Worthing defender on the line. The HLU’s went mad and so did the players at the end of the game, with everyone realising just how big this win was. A special mention for Falana too, who worked his self into the ground up front.
Quote for the game, ‘Thank f*** Carrington wasn’t playing.’
