LEATHERHEAD 3 BROMLEY 0 – LEAGUE 29/01/05
Bromley slipped out of the play off spots after being comprehensively beaten by their arch nemesis Leatherhead in embarrassing style.
For the first half an hour Bromley played well and had some chances to go in front with Boosey, Drewett and Amoako all going close. Then on 22 mins the Tanners got a soft free kick out on the right and it was headed home by the unmarked Charles-Smith for 1-0. Dave Stevens was his usual unpleasant self, catching Danny Carroll off the ball and getting involved in scuffles after every strong tackle or close call. After another spell of Bromley pressure Leatherhead made it 2-0, when a corner was once again turned in by the impressive Charles-Smith on 41 mins. Just before half time Amoako ran clear of the home defence and was clearly tripped as he went round the keeper only for the ref, who was hopelessly behind play, to book him for diving! At half time it was difficult to know whether to be more angry about that decision or the Bromley defending!
The second half saw the Tanners take the initiative from the off and they hit the bar and had an effort cleared off the line straight away. Walker then made a great save, before the Ravens finally got back into the match. Despite a period of possession we didn’t create any clear cut chances and eventually got caught when Charles-Smith burst clear to smash home their third goal for his hat trick on 74 mins. Just to confirm what an arsehole Dave Stevens is, after Bromley kicked a ball out for a home player to receive treatment, he had a shot at goal from the restart, which Walker just manage to get to! The game finished with Bromley looking lost, short on ideas and lacking any shape at all. The players were arguing amongst themselves and getting on Adolph’s back who was one of the few who gave their all. This was truly awful!
