GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 0 BROMLEY 1 BRYCO CUP 1ST RD 29/10/02

A cool evening for those hardy souls who made their way to the Essex coast. A good competitive game ended with The Ravens grabbing their place in the next round with another trademark late goal. The whole match was evenly contested with Bromley have more possession and good approach play, but Wakering having more actual efforts on goal, all of which were well saved by the excellent Danny Harwood. The first half saw Bartley have Bromley’s best chance when his shot was well saved by Hudson, but the 0-0 scoreline at the break was probably fair.

After the break it was the home side who had a couple of opportunities on the break, before Bromley made their possession tell. With 10 mins to go Amaning crossed a great ball over only for one of Wakering’s defenders to head against his own bar, Grant Watts tried to turn the rebound in, but it went over.

Amaning again cut in on 88 mins and this time his low ball across the six yard box was deflected in by Watts to win the game. Thompson ran his heart out for 75 mins, Smith, Harris, Bartley and Hollidge all played really well.

Quote for the game, Kirk Watts to Dan, ‘It makes a change to see you with a cup of tea in your hand!’
