METROPOLITAN POLICE 0 BROMLEY 2 – LEAGUE 29/12/04

Another solid defensive display and two great goals saw us take all three points from Imber Court and keep our challenge for the play off on track. We lined up 5-4-1 again and were fielding Danny Carroll in midfield, who had joined us from Carshalton on dual registration. The game got off to a lively start. Tiffin cut in from the right and was denied by keeper MacKenzie. The Police stopper was also on hand to deny Carroll and Drewett as Bromley pushed on. Ref Mugee didn’t do us any favours and awarded several soft free kicks to the home side. Walker made a great save palming away a fierce drive and almost straight away we broke down the right and Taiwo hit a powerful low cross that deflected out to Carroll who controlled turned and blasted the ball home for 1-0 on 37 mins. Just before the break Drewett was kicked to the ground, not for the first time, but Taiwo’s free kick was blocked.

The second half began in cagey fashion. Neither side created clear chances and we started to lose our discipline in midfield playing poor passes. The Police had four efforts on goal, all from outside the box, all of which went way over the bar. George brought on Watson for Taiwo and switched to 4-4-2. This seemed to give us a bit more forward momentum and we were soon rewarded with a second goal on 73 mins. Okafor sent a cross over that was headed out to Drewett on the edge of the box. He then hit a wonderful volley which looped in under the bar leaving the keeper stranded. Bromley improved and sharpened up their play. Drewett was fouled repeatedly as he tormented the Police defence and Tiffin worked incredibly hard down the right. Watson ruffled the home defence and out back line stood strong throughout. The final whistle was greeted with a loud cheer and applause from players and fans.
