BROMLEY 2 NORTH LEIGH 1 – FA CUP Prelim Round 30/08/03
We eventually got past a strong and stubborn side and the biggest relief among the fans was that there was no replay in Oxon on Tuesday night.
Bromley had the large share of the possession for the whole game, but spent a lot of the first half passing the ball nicely around the edge of the box without ever making in roads into the North Leigh box. Referee Mr Conn let the Hellenic League side get away with a lot of late fouls and by not punishing them he encouraged them to take our players out. We were made to rue our over playing on 39 mins when a high cross from the right was dropped by Harwood under no pressure and Matt Lewis cashed in and headed home for 0-1! There was a sense of fear around the Nest, but luckily we got back into the game on 45 mins when Wade played Luckett in and he drove his shot under the Keeper for 1-1 at the break.
The second half saw Bromley dominate again, but the end product was still lacking. The introduction of Jason McKoy improved things and it was his cross that Vines headed just over as the Ravens pressed on. Finally on 81 mins a McKoy cross was turned towards goal by Watts and Amoako smartly steered the ball in for the winner. There was a suspicion of offside, but the goal counted and we all went home relieved to be in the next round. Drewett looked good again when he came on as did Godwin who showed some nice touches, although we did miss Reid a lot.
