WALTON & HERSHAM 0 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 30/08/04
A great display of character and hard work in affluent Surrey suburbia gave Bromley a vital away win and erased some of the bad memories from two days before.
The first half was quite low key and scrappy. Bromley went closet to scoring when a long throw from Potterill was flicked on by Huggins and Gindre in the Walton goal saved acrobatically. Walton did look dangerous on the break, but the majority of the possession and pressure was had by Bromley. The lively Gibbs missed Walton’s best chance as the half finished scoreless.
The second half saw Bromley start slowly and Walton have more of the ball as our defence seemed slow to clear when under pressure. Keeper Gindre went down after being challenged by Bennetts, although there seemed little contact. After several minutes of treatment Gindre was carried off and replaced by Webb. On the hour mark Walker made a brilliant save from Gibbs and quickly the Ravens broke upfield. The initial attack was cleared for a throw, Potterill launched another massive throw into the box and Huggins flicked the ball over Webb for Amokao to head the ball home. Bromley had a similar effort cleared off the line soon after, but as the half went on the Swans were on top with Bromley defending on the edge of their box, coming closest when Gibbs hit the post and Nwokeji blasted the rebound over from close range. A few hefty challenges flew in during the game, but nothing compared to last seasons bloodbath. The game finished with chances at either end, but no more goals and we came away with a really hard earned three points.
Quote for the game: ‘That was the worst 45minutes of football I’ve ever endured’ – Nige. ‘Rubbish mate, you’ve got a Charlton season ticket.’ - Col. ‘Fair’ – Nige.
