THAMES ESTUARY PRE-SEASON TOUR 2004
THAMESMEAD TOWN 1 BROMLEY 1 – FRIENDLY 31/07/04
On a very hot day the Kent League Runners Up gave Bromley a good game and held them to a 1-1 draw, despite being put under lots of pressure for spells in both halves.
Thamesmead took the lead on 7 mins from a penalty when Arkwright made a clumsy challenge in the box and the spot kick was comfortably tucked away. Only 3 mins later the Ravens drew level when Bevis and Amoako combined well and Adolph finished his chance smartly. The trialist left back Ed Palmer was taken off after 20 mins and we switched to a back three for a while. As we adjusted to the new system Mead had another good shout for a penalty turned down, but then Bromley came right back into the game and should have made their possession around the box count, but the half finished 1-1.
The second half saw countless changes and although we played some nice football again, keeper Steve Northwood was never really troubled. Mead missed one great opportunity to win the ball when an effort went across the face of the goal, but no one came in to finish it. Vines went close for Bromley late on, but a draw was a fair result as the Ravens never really seemed to get going at full pace in the sweltering heat and Mead’s defence was excellently lead by Paulo Maldini lookalike Dean Kearley. Bevis had a good first half for Bromley, Myatt looked comfortable back in the midfield and Taywo and Henriques both looked impressive. Hopefully we will sign O’Reilly, who commands his box very well.
