Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart / These Days (7" / Factory Records / FAC 23 / 1980)

01 - Love Will Tear Us Apart - I never really found this that moving when I first heard it to be honest and I think it's one of the weaker Joy Division songs. Despite having the haunting synth and the desperate lyrics, the drumming is far too militaristic in style for my liking. Still, the affect is made - this leaves me feeling cold, alone and windswept.

02 - These Days - Now this is IT! Crisp drumming, carefully plucked guitar and understated bass combine to a stunning effect. Curtis' vocals aren't fantastic but there is just something about this song that is genius. How do you fucking write something this twisted?

6 / 10 for Track 1

10 / 10 for Track 2

PS - There is a second track on Side B which is basically "Love Will Tear Us Apart" all over again but with the full ending this time. Strange!
