Description of Functions: Performs law enforcement and crime prevention activities, controls traffic flow, enforces State and local traffic regulations, participates in special assignments. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of defined policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for enforcement of local, state and federal ordinances. |
Employment Standards: Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of police work. Basic criminal law knowledge. Patrol techniques, case law, search warrants, investigative and evidentiary techniques are required. Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, meet established standards of physical endurance, agility, health and vision, gather and preserve evidence, communicate effectively and react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Posses a California Drivers License. Must be a permanent residence of the United States. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to complete a detailed and intensive background investigation. |
Training and Experience: Must posses a High school diploma or GED certificate. Lateral candidates must possess a current California Basic POST certificate and have a minimum of one year of law enforcement experience in California as a sworn Peace Officer. Entry level candidates must have a completed POST certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy certificate. |
Sick Leave: 12 days per year; one half of sick leave accumulation is excess of 480 hours is paid directly to the employee as a cash benefit at the end of each year. 100% of sick leave accumulation paid upon retirement or when an employee with minimum 20 years of service leaves employment. |
Longevity Pay: Five (5%) percent after five (5) consecutive years of service. |
Long-Term Disability: City-paid insurance premium. |
Group Insurance: City pays full medical, dental and life ($40,000 for sworn) insurance for employees, plus $250 / month toward dependant coverage for employee + one, and $386 / month toward dependant coverage for employee + family. |
Bilingual Pay: $120 month pending completion of bilingual test, certifying fluency of Spanish, Tagalog or other language of benefit to the City. |
Holidays: In lieu of pay for 12.5 holidays a year prorated each paycheck |
Uniform Allowance: $900 per year (pre-taxed) paid twice per year. New employees will be reimbursed in the amount of $500 for the initial purchase of uniforms. |
Retirement: Currently 2% at 50. GB City belongs to the Public Retirement System (PERS). City pays both employee and employer contributions for full-time employees. |
Education Incentive: $1400 paid yearly in reimbursement. Educational incentives for certificates are: 2.5% for A.S./A.A. degree, 5% for B.A. and 7% for Masters degree, 2.5% for Intermediate Post Certificate and 5% for Advanced POST Certificate (5% maximum benefit). |

Proper operation of a two-way radio communication/CAD system. Perform a variety of general office assistance work with speed and accuracy. Use Tact and poise in dealing with the public. Hear adequately and speak clearly. |
Uniform Allowance: New employees will be reimbursed in the amount of $250 for non-sworn for the initial purchase of uniforms. |
