Christmas Traditions

Our family has several traditions we do every year.  We always look forward to doing them each year together.   Every year a new memory is made through traditions.

We start decorating our home for Christmas soon after Thanksgiving.  We decorate the inside and outside of our home and we usually have it all done during the first week of December.  Todd's birthday is in the first week of December. He likes everything up and ready for Christmas in time for his celebration.

Every year our children write a letter to Santa and we have them published in our local newspaper.  This is very special to our kids.  They look forward to seeing their letters in the paper.

Gary and I love to burn candles all during the year.  During the Christmas holidays, we burn pine and cinnamon scent candle every night.

My mother and I get together and spend the day baking Christmas goodies.  This is a special time for us to spend time together.  Our kids make their own Christmas cookies and decorate them the way they like them.  And they are allowed to make a huge mess!

Every year we give our close friends and neighbors homemade Christmas goodies.

We watch all of the Christmas specials that come on tv, Christmas wouldn't be the same with out all the wonderful shows I have been watching since I was a little girl.

Most years we go to the local Christmas parades.

Growing up, we opened one gift on Christmas Eve and now we have passed that on to our kids.

Everyone in our home buys a gift for every family member in our home.  At Todd's school during Decemeber they open up a Sercet Santa Shop.  He buys for all of us there and they help him wrap the gifts he bought.  He does a great job every year with choosing his gifts for us.  They are always very special for us.  This will be Kelsey's first year shopping for all of us at the Sercet Santa Shop!

On Christmas Eve night the kids sprinkle reindeer dust in the yard.

My Mother made a very special book for Todd when he was a baby. It is a cloth book, "Twas The Night Before Christmas". It is very special to me. I hope one day Todd will read it to his children every Christmas Eve night as we do now.

We place homemade cookies on a special Christmas plate for Santa with a glass of egg nog. Todd always writes Santa a note wishing him a safe trip and leaves it beside the plate.

New family tradition starting 2001

My Mother has came up with a neat idea for us starting this Christmas.  Mystery gifts for each family member.  There are 10 of us all together.  There will be 10 small presents and she will be the only one that knows what's inside each box.  We are still thinking of different ways to have everyone pick their gift.   Each year another family member will be in charge of buying all the mystery gifts.

Happy Holidays from all of us!
