What Do
You Think?

by Gwyn Trahearn

This roving reporter headed out around Gorchat asking the question:

Which of the virtues of a Gorean is most important and why?

and here were some of the responses:

Chaos, Tharna GC: Honor, without it, men are nothing. Well, I say this because, though I have very questionalbe behavior myself, my honor is above reproach, because I follow the Gorean standard rule: that if you don't get caught, you're fine. If you are an Honorable man, and do honorable deeds, Life will treat you well. But Honor is different for the different castes. My honor is that of the sword. A peasant's honor is that of the work he does to support his Family.

Dalanar/Ubar of Turia GC: *thinks for a bit* Honor comes to mind, but in truth, that is a little broad of a subject. I would have to say openness. I have seen many issues and problems arise when P/people are not willing to communicate with one A/another ... as much as whole Cities destroyed. I try My best to speak openly with all of My C/citizens. I find that the matters that trouble T/them are usually fixable, as long as E/everyone involved are aware of the O/other's feelings on the issue and as Ubar I never mind standing as a go between.

Maximus, City of Turia~GC: I would have to say Honor. As My Brother has said, it is a broad subject. But with Honor comes the respect for others and will also give you the ability to be open and upfront with others. A Good Man told me once, "Without Honor, you have nothing." Lady Liynaa Davio, Brundisium, GC: Honesty and honor. Without honesty, it is hard to have honor.

Sidona Caldazar, Tatrix of Tharna, GC: I think that the most important virtue of a Gorean is honor. They base their lives upon their honor. It means more to them than even gold. I think all Goreans have this sense of honor, be they outlaw, slave, Free, Assasin. Just My opinion.

Midnight Fire Wolf, Tharna, GC: You're saying to a Gorean. You can't ask a question like that. To a Warrior, it would be honor, but to a slave, it would be to be pleasing.

shadow{Sid}, Tharna, GC: he is sorry to disappoint You Mistress, but he thinks Honor as well.

sasani{Dal/Nanti}, Turia, GC: aye Mistress. *keeping her eyes lowered, the girl answers* in this mere slaves opinion, it is the desire to serve and please. love and devotion are key. *smiling to the Mistress* sassi feels that to be a good slave, you have to want Others to be happy. it is trying to bring that happiness to Those she serves that keeps the fire buring within this girl.

Cheney Tina Trahearn, Port Kar, GC: Honor. Without Honor a Free Gorean has nothing.

Nadira, Nadira's Band, GC: I would have to say Honor. Honor defines a person. Also, very few can claim, in truth, to possess it. From the highest Ubar, to the lowest slave, honor is all. It can inspire so many more things than itself. Too, it is rare and few Goreans toy with it. It is important as it is all. Honor is the very basis for the Camps, Cities and Lairs. Warriors pledge it to a Ubar. Panthers honor a Leader, and Citizens an Administrator or Tatrix. Lastly, even a slave honors his or her Master/Mistress. In all things, honor lives and without it, W/we would be as nothing. As meaningless as a dead thing.

Thank You to A/all of those answering.
