Ubar Reflects

by Keats

So what does an Ubar do anyway?

I remember a time when I thought that the Ubar got to do all the fun stuff. After all, He could fur any slave that he wished whenever He wished. Most of the time He seemed ridiculously behind on the posts and the rumor was that He was furring several girls in Q at the same time.

I remember talking to My First Ubar and wait ridiculously long times to hear His short somewhat gruff responses. Often He seemed to be in a bad mood and in My frustration I thought, maybe He suffers from constipation.

I saw Him act with ruthless cruelty from time to time and many of the slaves that were in his ko-lar complained of a lack of time with him. Yet, there was something about the Ubar.

When He was in the room, it was different. People were not slack. There was an added crispness to the serves that girls did. On the few occasions when He did spend time speaking with Me, it seemed like the light of Gor shone from his words.

That was a long time ago and now I am an Ubar. I would bet that some in My room think many of the same things about Me. After all, I have several slaves on My chain. I am treated with respect by the Warriors and Free Women. My slaves pant after My touch.

But often I am not able to keep up with the room. Often I am multitasking on Q. I do not suffer from constipation, but I do get angry when I see things not Gorean.

An Ubar's job is to be the embodiment of Gor for His people. They expect Him to know what to do on issues in rp and rl. It is a magnificent job! The people of Gor are among the best on the net, but it is the responsibility of a leader to provide them with direction and role model behavior.

When I see a city where the books are not held in esteem, where rules are the devices of convenience rather than the honor of duty, I know in My heart that it is the Ubar who has failed more than anyone else there.

So I believe it is that burden and joy that marks the role of a leader.
