On Site

by Desiree/KR

"Mommy, Mommy, I found a puppy, please, please may I keep? I promise to take care of it and do all the work."

Yeah, sure.

This is pretty much what some people who want to open rooms on GorChat have sounded like.

"I need the room right now. I'm bringing 12 chatters with me, eight of whom will buy memberships. And I promise the room will be filled and grow in no time."

Yeah, sure.

Sometimes I no sooner get the room set up, than the person who asked for it takes off for another site, another vision, another (fill in the blank). Other times, we get the room set up and there it sits -- empty.

The room leader won't go because the room is empty and he/she has no one to talk to. Of course, no one stops in the room because there is no one there. Oh sure, sometimes the room leader may stay in the room for a week, maybe even two, before he/she takes off. But in many cases, it seems GC ends up with an empty room.

Well, not anymore. Beginning Wednesday, KNIGHTRANGER is going to start closing rooms that don't show consistent activity. If you want your room, you'd better get in there and try to build it, simple as that. And, you'd better contact KNIGHTRANGER with a plausible reason for why you should be able to keep your room. (This, of course, does not apply to the rooms that are running with good numbers on a consistent basis.)

New rooms will not be set up until there are three paid, SIX-MONTH memberships (the monthly memberships do not count). And anyone who is a moderator and has not purchased a SIX-MONTH membership, will lose that status, beginning on Friday.

"I wish you people would think before asking to open a room," KNIGHTRANGER posted on the GorChat message board. "Understand the time and commitment it takes to make a room work and not open them on a whim.

"Everyone wants to be a Chief and it seems there are just not enough Indians to make the rooms work," he added. "If you are as loyal as you say to GC, then either work your rooms or get together with other small rooms on site and combine them."

I know KR very well. He isn't kidding about this. If you want your room to continue, then you need to do the hard work necessary to make it a success.

Until next week, Hai Gorchat!
