Responsibility of a Free Woman

OK, so You are sitting there minding Your own business, role playing in Your home and in stumbles a pregnant, single, unescorted Free Woman who is ready to give birth at any moment.

The P/people of Your home rush to help the Lady in distress as You watch in shock. After an hour of tense role play, triplets are born and the Woman is near death due to a sleen attack in the wilds as She was traveling unescorted in labor.

You, being a hospitable and most patient Free Woman, offer Your congratulations and shake Your head that it is all right, She had to deliver the babies on Your finest cloak. She is offered protection from Her abusive FC, to Whom she split with and is given a place to stay.

Later that night, You lay in Your furs. You all of a sudden feel like screaming. You are appalled and mad as a bosk with a spear in His butt. First off, You think to Yourself, what the heck was She doing traveling alone?

This bothers You as You have heard time and time again the reprocusions if You were to travel alone. Time and time again Your FC had warned You, the Ubar had warned You NOT to travel alone. Secondly, traveling when She is in labor. You lay there fuming. Thirdly, was the Woman taking some type of fertility drug. Triplets? Come on!!! Your mind plays over the night's events as You role play, laying there staring into the Gorean night.

So, what does a Free Woman do who decides to play by the rules of the books? More often than not, the Women in the books were rude to downright mean. But through the effects of role play and online, She is many things.

She takes upon the role she chose. That role being one of composure and modesty. She upholds Her responsibilty set upon Her. She takes the role of Mother, Free Companion, Sister and Daughter. Her role in Her Home is somewhat of a basis of stability. She guides Her fellow Sisters, provides a stern hand for slaves and is a strong pillar behind Her Free Companion.

Her actions are highly regarded and watched. She tries to set an example for A/all that She comes in contact with. She offers hospitality and warmth within Her home and within the harsh world of Gor.

But remember," he said, smiling, "it is slaves who are assessed and have prices. Free women are priceless." "Yes," I said, somewhat mollified, stepping back. "Yes!" I must remember that I was priceless. I was a free woman. (Kajira of Gor)
So, what does the Free Woman do when She is confronted by another Free who feels the need to express Herself by having a drama every 10 minutes?

Well, the proper Free Woman pretty much grins and bears it. She becomes used to having to set aside Her true feelings and accepting that these are the ways of Gor.

Though the drama does hold for good role playing within the room, it does make the job of a Free Woman that much harder. The Free Women who choose to get attention by being overly dramatic often set a bad example for Free Women. And, some look upon those Free Women and figure that All are like that.

Though this is not a quote from J. Norman's book, it is a quote that I felt holds much merit for Free Women.

Free Women are encouraged and expected to to be soft, gentle, obedient, yet strong, smart ... compliant ... walking the line of propriety, acting with honor, fairness, dignity. Free women, just in being free, garner much respect, yet act in the way you should and respect will be given to you because others 'want' to give it to you and truly respect you, and not just because you have a capped name.
