Did You Know?

by Mechelena

It's that time again, and I did have a lil more time to hunt around and see what interesting things I could find so I could ask ... Did You Know?

Whip of the furs

A method of disciplining slave girls by rape rather than by flogging; esp. popular in Torvaldsland. (Marauders of Gor, pg 66)
Hmmmmm some type discipline. *grins* I think that's all I will say about it *gives that FW demure look*

Did you know that some Warriors had a Society?

All Comrades

A warrior society of the Kaiila tribe of Red Savages, also called the Fighting Hearts, represented by a heart over a black horizontal line with a lance below it on the flanks of their kaiila. (Savages of Gor, pg 314)
Guess that's an elite Mens club.

How about another definition for fisherman?

Fisherman

Name given to an arena combatant who fights with net and trident. (Vagabonds of Gor, pg 91)
So, I guess there's more to it than catching fish. *grins*

Here is a war cry that some may not have heard of:

Aretai Victorious!!

Aretai: A major tribe of the Tahari, their vassal tribes are the Arani, Luraz, Ravir,i Tajuks, Tashid, Ti, and Zevar. Their war cry is 'Aretai Victorious!'. (Tribesman of Gor, pgs 47 and 160)
I thought that might interest you.

Here is a little tidbit about an outpost.

Ar's Station

An outpost of the Ubarate of Ar and trading station on the south bank of the Vosk, founded four years after Pa-Kur's hordes gathered there, prior to their war against Ar. Ar's station was Ar's stronghold on the Vosk. When Cos landed at Brundisium, and moved it's forces toward Ar's Station, Ar failed to act because of political treachery. Ar's Station eventually fell to Cos. It stands at the northern terminus of the Viktel Aria which leads to Ar, also known as the Vosk Road. (Rogue of Gor, pgs 62 and 63; Mercenaries of Gor, pgs 164; Vagabonds of Gor, pgs 18-19; Magicians of Gor, pg 16)
Ar was stretched out more than I thought with such a post.

How about this salute?

Askari Hodari!!

A salute to the honor of another warrior; in Ushindi it means 'Brave Warrior' or simply 'Warrior' (Explorers of Gor, pg 442)
Not only did that region have a salute, it also had a lake named after it.

Lake Ushindi

Drained by the Kamba River and Nyoka River, it is a large, equatorial lake, located in the Jungles of Schendi. The inland village of Nyuki is located on the north shore. It's western border is made up of bogs, marshes, and floodlands. A canal connects Lake Ushindi east across the swampland to Lake Ngao. (Explorers of Gor, pgs 100 and 455)
Oh, and there's also a bird named after it.

Ushindi fisher

Long-legged, wading bird near the Schendi; long, white, curling feathers used for headdresses. (Explorers of Gor, pg 236)
OK, enough geography. Let's see what else can be found.

Bones:

A game played with pieces carved from bones that are shaped to resemble an animal; a bone is dropped from a players hand and the bone which remains upright is the winner. (Beasts of Gor, pg 185)
Guess I'll have to get to carving. It sounds like a good game.

That ends it for this time. Once again I'll start my hunt through the books, just so I can come back once again to ask, Did You Know?

Be well Goreans.
