Irreversible Mistake
Chapter 1
By: Complicated
Tears streamed down my face as I ran towards the bridge. I damned traffic, I damned the unbearable heat that was slowing me down, I damned....you. I glanced at the night sky to wish on the stars that you would be waiting for me.
As I approached the middle of the bridge there you were, sitting on the ledge, overlooking the traffic below.
"Joel," I said gently and out of breath. You turned to me, your dark eyes sad, your smooth cheeks tear stained.
"You came," you said quietly, for the first time in the four years that I've known you, your hair was a disheveled mess and you weren't wearing a hat.
"Of course I did," I sighed tucking a few strands of hair that had come loose behind my ear. "Now, you want to tell me what all this is about?"
"Tanya," you say looking away. " I'm hurting."
"Why, sweetie?" I inch closer to you.
"Because I love. I love with all my soul, with all me heart and my love goes unnoticed and unreciprocated. That's why I hurt."
"Oh, Joel. We all hurt. It's not love unless it hurts."
"Understandable but 3 and a half years of pain? I can't, if I jump I end it all. No more pain."
"Joel, I've been in love for years, too," I say quietly. "But he never loved me back." I hesitantly slide my hands over yours, your surprisingly cool. But you don't budge. "Babe, what about all the people that are going to hurt in your absence? Your mom, Benj, Paul, Billy, all your fans. Me. Do you want to do that?"
"Fuck!!! I just want to stop hurting!!," you yell angrily, your body sobbing. You inched closer to the edge snatching your hand away.
"Okay, ok," I say my heart beginning to race. "Joel, tell me about this girl."
"She is perfect," you say, your lips quivering, tears streaming down your face. " She has long dark curly hair and the most mysterious brown eyes. She always says that our eyes are a soulful match."
"Joel,' I say my voice shaking, "I say that." You didn't budge.
"She's always smiling and she has the most beautiful smile. She takes walks with me to watch the sunrise. She always makes me tea when I'm sick. She's smart and funny." My heart was practically beating out of my chest.
"Joel, I do all those things."
"I know," he said looking at me with a sad smile. "You also say that sometimes the biggest mistakes are the things you don't do. I love you." And you pushed off the bridge, I lunged forward grabbing your hand.
"Joel," I cry, your body dangling above speeding traffic, your hand slipping from mine. "Don't leave me," I plead. "The man I love wouldn't leave me.". Your dark eyes showed a glimmer of hope before you let go. "Joel, nooo!!!!" I yell into the night sky. I close my eyes to avoid the horrible sight of your body slamming into the concrete. My mind races as my painful sobs escape my soul. I take two steps away before turning around and taking the same you leap you did. I closed my eyes and fell and fell...
My eyes snap open as I look around the brightly lit room. I look down at me white gown, my heart racing.
"Tanya, you ok?" asks my mother adjusting my head band.
"No," I reply rising to my feet. "I need to go see my fiancé. I need to see Joel." I run out of the room, without giving my mom the chance to talk.
"But you're marrying Benji," she says quietly, knowing better than to run out after me. I hike up my dress as I ran down the long corridor. I ran into the room that Benji was supposed to be in, but instead in the middle of the room stood Joel.
"Joel," I smile with tears in my eyes, he looked absolutely gorgeous in a black and ivory tuxedo. "Oh my God, I had the most horrible dream, I dreamt that you were on the ledge of a bridge and you jumped and then I jumped after you... Hmm, I love you." His face was that of shock as I walked to you and wrapped my arms around your neck. "I love you...." Our lips met, it was a sweet, passionate kiss. "I am so happy to be marrying you..."
"Funny, because I thought you were marrying me," interrupted Benjis' voice and my heart froze.
"Yea," you agreed, "being that I'm already married..."
"Oh my...," I pulled away from you. "I, hmmm, I made a horrible mistake."
"Yeah," agreed Benji," an irreversible one......."
