When The Stars Cross
Chapter 2
By: Erynn*Alice

She could see him cry. She felt his hand in hers and trace the scars. She felt his lips kiss her tears away. She remembered his face fading in and out. She could hear his pleads, begging her to stay with him. She did.

She remembered his good-bye through her fluttering eyes and leaving hearing. She remembered it all, bits and pieces. She remembered seeing his face for the last time. He thought it was over, he thought she had given up. She wanted to give up, leave, never have to feel again, but when pain had driven her to kill herself, the one emotion that was left in her body was love. She couldn't leave behind love, especially this one.

She never gave up when she realized that there was more to life than her pain. There was his pain and his love, and that was the only reason she faught for her life in the hospital.

When she finally came about two days after, he was gone. She asked her parents, friends, nurses, but no one had seen him.

She survived only for him, but he was gone.

Ellie walked into the room and saw her friend sitting by the window, pale as ever. "When was the last time you felt the sun?"

Ashton looked over. "Can I get a sun burn from sitting in the window?" Ellie shook her head. "I'd fry. Look at me. I'm probably whiter than Michael Jackson." She sighed. She used to always be tan. Tan from surfing mainly, but she was naturally tan. Not now, though, now she was pale.

She smiled and took a seat in the window. "We should do something." Ashton nodded. "We could...I don't know, see a movie?"

Ashton shook her head. "I don't want to sit through something. I want to do something."

"We could go to the beach. Surf, swim," Ellie looked at Ashton's bare legs. "Sun bathe."

"I'm way too pale. I'd be a freak show out there with all those skimpy little blondes." Ashton rolled her eyes, then looked at her friend. "No offense." Ellie was a tiny blonde with a skimpy swim suite. She grew up in South Dakota, so she was making up for it.

"Well, what do you want to do?"

She shrugged. "I want to go to work."

Ellie threw her head back and laughed. "No you don't. It's crazy over there."

"It's better than being stuck in Jeff's attic all day." After Ashton tried to kill herself, her friend, Jeff, offered her a room in his attic. It wasn't a normal attic. It was nice and it had a walk in closet with a beautiful bathroom. The backdoor was always her escape route out of the house. She felt completely at home. All of her things were in that attic, and there was no hope in ever seeing her appartment in the city ever again. She couldn't have been happier. From her window she could see the beach, where she always wanted to be. No more tall buildings making her feel so tiny in the scheme of things.

"We should go out to lunch, Ashton. Get you out of here, into the sun." Ashton nodded. While Ellie went downstairs to talk with Jeff, Ashton washed up and changed. She felt odd wearing a long sleeved shirt. The scars were still bright red, but her doctor promised they'd fade over time.

Ashton headed downstairs after she got dressed. "Ready, Ellie?" She asked.

Jeff un-propped himself from the doorway he was standing in and looked at Ashton. "I'm glad you're finally getting out. It'll be good for you, it's better than my backyard." The backyard was the only place Ashton had felt the sun in awhile. Now she'd not only be experiencing the sun, but the society that was based around it as well.

The two girls walked outside. Ashton opened her arms up to the sun. She was starting to act normal again. They had decided to walk to the cafe down the street. Jeff followed them out. He got in his car to head to the store. "What progress, Ashton." He laughed and closed the door.

"I know, I'm going to be back to normal in no time." She hoped.

Jeff rolled his window down and smiled, "So you're back in the sun, next goal is to get you back into the dating scene." She watched him drive away and felt her heart plummet. She had forgotten all about it over the course of months spent in the hospital, rehabilitation, therapy, Alaska with her parents, and her attic. Sure, there wasn't a day that went by when Ashton didn't think of Joel, but she started to realize that fate probably wouldn't strike twice. She probably wouldn't see him again, and maybe it was for the best. She knew he thought she was dead.

He never thought someone would come along
And show him a feeling he's always dreamed of.
She didn't plan on falling in love.
Upset the balance she's wanted so long.
This road to recovery has taken all I have.
It seems hard as I try
To succumb once again...again...
Well he lost control and gave up his heart.
To follow the girl that he's always dreamed of.
She pulled away so scared of a love
That might have been more than she had planned on.
This road to recovery has taken all I have.
It seems hard as I try
To succumb once again...again...
Well love is a bitch all relationships end.
What happens now when that persons gone.
The one who you thought you could always count on.
You fall in love and they fall out.
Love is a bitch. All realationships end.
How do I let go of a love that meant so much to me.
How do I go on when you're part of me.
I'm dying inside each time I see you.
Don't lose sight of me cause yer all I see.
Your still all I see.
This road to recovery has taken all I have
