Not Him...Please
Chapter 8
By: Punk Lover
Marshall watched T.V. for a few hours without hearing a word from his mom. By that time Benji and Paul were eating a room service breakfast, both in their boxers but Benji was dripping wet from the shower. They had offered some food to Marshall multiple times, but he always refused. After telling his mom off he lost all feeling in his stomach. Paul and Benji were talking about the whole situation and decided to just leave Candy alone in the other room so not to make her angry or sadder then she already was.
Billy joined Paul and Benj a few minutes later for some breakfast. “Candy’s still in the bathroom.” Billy whispered, “Joel’s trying to talk to her.” Marshall heard this and his eyes started to water. He thought of her in the bathroom crying and yelling at Joel to leave her alone.
Joel was leaning against the bathroom door trying to get Candy to talk to him. “C’mon Candy, you’re crying and I want to know why!” Joel waited a bit. No answer. “Was it something I did?” Still no answer. “I’m not leaving this place, this room, this position of my ass on the floor until you tell me!” He waited and heard the crying stop. Then he heard the shower turn on…and the door unlock. He looked behind him to see if Candy would come out but the door remained closed. He stood up and slowly put his hand on the doorknob and carefully turned it. He peered through and saw that Candy was sitting in the shower with her pajamas still on and she was already soaked. Joel closed the door and went into the shower with his boxers still on, closed the curtains and sat next to Candy who immediately put her head on his shoulder. Joel looked down at her then at his surroundings. He smiled slightly at the feeling he got when he realized how it kind off looked like they were in a clubhouse or something. But his thoughts were immediately pushed aside when Candy started talking.
“My life’s a wreck.” Candy said with no _expression, “ Cody and I never stop fighting and he never comes to see Marshall. He might not have to anyways. Then Marshall just disappears and when I find him he reminds me of all my problems and what I’m putting him through.” Candy toke a deep breath and continued on, “ I feel so pathetic not knowing who his father is…and it totally sucks because you’re a big part of it and its all my fault. If I wasn’t so in love with Cody the first time he left I would have never cried and then you wouldn’t come over to see a helpless girl who used you because she felt lonely so fast.”
Joel just listened and didn’t really think of all that. He then realized that Candy did actually use him. The feeling came back. The one he got when a few weeks after they had sex, he found out that Cody and Candy got back together. But he wasn’t going to give up on Candy just because he didn’t like the truth. He just sat there not even touching her but still letting her lean on his shoulder while the shower still sprayed them gently.
“I’m sorry for everything…as soon as I find out who the father is then I can take things from there.” Then there was a light knock on the door. “It’s probably one of the guys. Come in!” The person walked in and pulled the curtains back rapidly. Candy was so shocked but Joel was less then surprised.
Cody looked from Joel to Candy and then back at Joel. “When are we leaving?” Candy was really confused and looked up to Joel who was now standing and getting out of the shower.
“We’ll get dressed then we can go.” Joel grabbed a towel and left the room. Cody stayed and got Candy a towel and put it around her when she finally stood up, still looking at Cody with a confused face. Joel came back in dressed and started to brush his teeth. “You should turn the shower off and get dressed and what not so we can go.” His tooth past muffled his words but the words were still understandable. Candy walked past him and past Cody and got some clothes and got ready. The guys were waiting for her when she finally came to the door to go.
They walked out, making sure the door was locked then went next door so Joel can give Billy the keys. They were watching T.V. and playing cards when they walked in. Candy looked at Marshall right away. He wasn’t paying attention to her. He couldn’t he was afraid to even look near her. Cody walked over to Marshall and whispered something in his ear then suddenly picked him up and walked out the door. Candy was getting frustrated and even more confused. Joel walked out after signaling Candy to hurry up. They walked to the elevator and went through the lobby. Joel signaled a taxi and they hopped in.
“Medical Center please.” Cody sat in the back wit Marshall and Joel while they put Candy in the front. The cab driver started towards the nearest medical center. The driver started up some chitchat and it seemed to Candy like it toke forever to get to their destination. “Here you go. Thanks.” Joel paid the driver and got out with Marshall behind him. Candy got out quickly and walked towards Joel.
“Are we doing what I think we’re doing?” Joel just nodded his head and started walking towards the front doors. Cody had Marshall in his arms again and walked past Candy. Marshall looked back but didn’t say anything. Candy followed them to the front desk where Joel was already talking to the secretary.
“This man,” he pointed at Cody, “this young lad,” he pointed to Marshall. “and I would like to get a DNA test please.” The secretary looked at them then looked down at her computer and started typing.
“We can do those for you in about half an hour. Do you mind filling out these forms for us please?” She put some clipboards with the forms on them onto the desk and Cody and Joel toke them. They all walked towards the waiting area and started filling out the forms. Candy sat next to Cody, Marshall started playing with some of the toys they had there. When the guys finished filling out the forms they gave them back and sat down once again to wait another 15 minutes.
Candy sat there thinking about the answer to the question. Who was the father of her son? She thought about the results of her life if the father was Cody and then did the same thing if the results were Joel. She didn’t know which one she wanted more. She grabbed a magazine and started staring at the pages. She started ripping them slowly until she got to the other edge of the page. She started saying Cody and Joel’s name after every ripe. When she got to the edge of the page she said Cody. She then thought Cody’s the father because that was the last ripe she could do. Then she realized that she wanted to try again…and knowing now that she wasn’t happy with that result she knew she actually wanted Joel to be the father and that was that. She looked over at Joel who was also reading a magazine, but little did she now that he was doing the exact same thing.
“Mr. Joel Madden? You’re turn!” Cody and Candy looked up at Joel as he walked over to the doorway and walked through into a white room. Candy and Cody were extremely nervous but didn’t show it. They sat there in silence and waited. Marshall didn’t seem to notice, he just kept playing with some plastic cars.
Joel sat down on a bed like chair thing and waited for the doctor. “Hello.” The door opened suddenly and he walked in.
“Hi.” Joel said in a non exuberant tone unlike the doctor.
“Let’s see, you would like a DNA test. Am I right?” Joel just nodded his head. “Alright then I’ll just stick these gloves on my hands and we’ll get started.” Joel’s mind was racing…here goes nothing.
I’m sick of always hearing
All those sad songs on the radio
All day it is there to be mine
An over sensitive guy that is lost and alone ya
I hate our favorite restaurant, our favorite movie, our favorite show
We would stay up all through the night
We would laugh and get high and never answer the phone
I can’t forgive, can’t forget, can’t give in
What went wrong cuz you said this was right
You fucked up my life
I’m sick of always hearing
Semi love songs on the radio
This place is fucking cursed and it’s plagued
And I can never escape when my heart it explodes
I’m kicking out fiercely at the world around me
What went wrong?
I’m kicking
