Allison Moorer

CMT's Delivery Room had a new video from a redhead I'd never heard of, back in 1998, called Set You Free. The video host said something about Allison Moorer being the sister of Shelby Lynne, whose music I was quite familiar with, so I thought, "Let's see what her sister's got."

And I heard the music, and this accent - unashamed, delectable - and figured, "Hey, this gal can sing!" I found her album a few days later, threw it in the player, and was positively floored. She was not Shelby Lynne. She was her sister. And Allison was better.

The emotion in her voice makes every sad song even sadder. I heard that right away from her first album, Alabama Song, and even more so through her latest effort, The Hardest Part. She's quickly become one of my favourite artists.
