Chapter 5

A New Beginning

We drove into the parking lot with all of the eager eyes on our car, some wondering if they'll get the chance to smash it. No, they'd never go through with it. They know they wouldn't be in the nicest condition the next day.

All of the classes seemed endless. History, science, math, English, all such a bore. You wonder why they'd still teach us stuff on the last day. Finally, it was three o'clock. I said goodbye to all of my Grade 11 friends that I might not see for a while.

We walked to the car, until we heard the faint scream of a helpless woman. We decided to take action. Loren, Roberto, and I stumbled upon a girl being beaten by a couple of guys.

We pulled out our trusty handguns which we always carry, just in case. Roberto shot up into the air to get their attention. The guys saw us, and ran like the wind. I told Loren and Roberto to catch up with them, while I took care of the girl.

She was knocked out, so I carried her to the car, and drove to catch up with the guys. They seemed to have everything under control, so they got in the car, and we drove home. I carried the girl into the house and laid her on the bed.

Michael: Cindy! Get some ice and a washcloth. We've got an injured guest up here!

Cindy raced up, took one look at the girl, and started to clean her up. Robin came into the room shocked, and began to cry on Loren's shoulder. All I could do was stare and hope for the best.

Cindy: Looks like she's coming around.

Danielle: Oooh...where am I?

Antonio and his girlfriend Melissa came upstairs to see what all the commotion was about. I asked Melissa to run back down and get some bandages.

Michael: Don't worry. Those guys who were beating on you have been taken care of. By the way, who were they, Miss...?

Danielle: Miss Benson, Danielle Benson. Thanks for helping me.

I saw a look of gratitude and curiosity on her face. She then continued. It turned out that her scummy boyfriend got his friends to rough her up, because she dumped him that morning. I asked the others to leave, so I could speak to Danielle alone. Cindy intervened, but Loren quickly motioned her out and closed the door.

I volunteered to drive her home, but she said it would probably have been ransacked by her ex-boyfriend. I asked her if she wanted to live with us, since we had more than enough room.

Danielle: Thanks for the offer. I'll accept. But first we have to pick up a few things at my place.

We drove off to her house. When we got there, the LAPD had already surrounded the place. It seems as though her jealous ex-boyfriend set the place on fire. She didn't want to stay and watch, and seeing as though there wasn't really anything to get, we went back home.
